Objectives

General objective

To preserve the Priority Habitats in the SPA Pico da Vara/ Ribeira do Guilherme, defining the best meassures for its restoration and putting into value its main socioeconomic benefits in order to guarantee long term conservation. 


Specific Objectives
  • To design a new Comunitary Interest Site for the island of São Miguel, to be integrated into the future São Miguel Natural Park;
  • To elaborate a potential vegetation map in order to define managment priorities for the area;
  • To create a nursery of native and endemic plants from the Azores to be used in conservation actions.
  • To train a especialized labor into invasive species control;
  • To recover an area of Macaronesian Heath;
  • To recover an area of Raised Bogs and control human access and preassure on it;
  • To recover an area of Laurel Forest avoiding the growth of invasive species;
  • To assure legal protection of these habitats with the integration of a Mangment Plan for them into the Managment Plan for the São Miguel Natural Park
  • To assure the continuity of the conservation meassures between public end private entities;
  • To contribute to the sustainable development of touristic activities in the area, promoting activities that don't affect the conservation of the ecosystems.
